Whether you’ve been curious about lawn bowls or are considering joining a welcoming sports community in the Sutherland Shire, Engadine Bowling Club offers opportunities for everyone – from complete beginners to experienced competitive players. Here’s everything you need to know about becoming part of the Engadine Cougars bowls family.
Who Can Play Bowls at Our Club?
Anyone is welcome to play bowls at Engadine Bowling Club. If you’re new to the game, we have coaching available to help you become comfortable with how to play and what to expect when you choose to get involved.
For social members who are interested in playing, we offer the perfect introduction. You’re welcome to have some lessons and are given the opportunity to have a few games before deciding whether to upgrade your membership to a full bowling membership. It’s a no-pressure way to discover whether bowls is right for you.
We also offer a coached Junior Development Program that is highly subsidised, helping keep bowls an affordable option for young players. It’s great to see so many of the juniors taking to the green.
Another option is to come along to our Barefoot Bowls Sunday Sessions (every Sunday from 2pm to 5pm) and have some fun with friends and family while experiencing the game.
Competitive Opportunities for All Skill Levels
The Engadine Cougars is a club that fosters and encourages its bowling members to participate in competitions ranging from entry-level rookie tournaments all the way through to national ranking events. Whatever your skill level or ambition, there’s a pathway for you.

Our Club Championships allow you to play against other members of the club in various formats, including singles, pairs, triples and fours. It’s a great way to test your skills in a friendly but competitive environment. - Pennants
Pennants is an inter-club competition involving clubs from within the Metro South-East region, with players representing their club in a home and away 10–12 week format. It’s the pinnacle of team competition and a chance to play for club pride. - Region Championships
These competitions are played among the Metro South-East member clubs, allowing players to challenge themselves at the next level. Region Championships are contested in the formats of singles, pairs, triples and fours, and the winners progress to State Championships. - Tournaments
We run numerous single-day tournaments at the club throughout the year, providing even more opportunities to compete and enjoy the game.
Social Bowls: Play at Your Own Pace
Social bowls are played Tuesday through Saturday, with some events also available on Sundays. Thursday evening is a very relaxed open event where everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level. It’s a great access point for those who are working and unable to access other events during the week.
The beauty of social bowls is its flexibility. You can play casually without committing every week. Enquire today to find out more and we’ll help you get started.
Learning the Game: Coaching and Support
Bowls is a great game because it allows people of all ages, genders and abilities to play. Like anything, it takes practice to develop your skills, but we have coaching available for our members. This coaching caters for all levels, ranging from novice level through to high performance.
Once you’re a full bowling member, you can access coaching and you’re able to use the greens for practice any time there is space available. Not only do we have accredited coaches available, but we have players who have represented at state and national levels who are more than happy to provide time and advice.
What other game do you know that provides opportunities for everyone to play with and against world champions on any given day?
Getting Started: Equipment and Costs
Players are welcome to use the club’s practice bowls when starting out. When they start playing more regularly, they will be encouraged to source their own bowls, and we can assist in this process.
After joining, every member will receive a playing shirt, hat and shorts or pants for a minimal cost. Bowls shoes are a requirement, and we can assist with this purchase also.
