Engadine Bowling Club has been part of the local community for almost 70 years. A barefoot bowls party is one of the best ways to see why. We’re a friendly community club with great dining and weekly food specials and a long history of lawn bowls. We offer social and competitive bowls, plus our outdoor space, The Lawn, which features live music with many local artists playing every Sunday. There’s plenty of parking at the front and rear of the club, which makes it ideal for those memorable moments. We’re also just a five-minute walk from Engadine Town Square.
Barefoot bowls is a popular choice for birthdays, work get-togethers, Christmas parties, family celebrations and social catchups. Thinking about booking a barefoot bowls party? Here’s everything you need to know.
How does a barefoot bowls party work?
Bookings are essential, so it’s worth planning. Each booking runs for two hours, which most groups find is plenty of time, and is available Tuesday to Saturday.
When you arrive, simply check in and pay at reception. The friendly staff will then meet you and take you out to the greens, which will be set up and ready for your group. They’ll then be on hand for the full two hours to help everything run smoothly.
If you’d like to try bowls before booking a party, come along to our Barefoot Bowls Sunday Sessions, every Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.
We’ve never played barefoot bowls before. Will someone show us what to do?
You don’t need to know anything about bowls to join in. Our team sets everything up, demonstrates how to bowl, walks you through the basic rules, and is on hand for any questions along the way.
Most groups are there for fun rather than serious competition, so once everyone’s got the hang of it, it’s all about relaxing and enjoying yourselves. It’s a genuinely easy-going atmosphere, no experience required.
What should we wear?
Dress comfortably so you can relax and enjoy yourself. We recommend flat-soled shoes such as runners, or you’re welcome to play in bare feet if you prefer. Despite the name, playing barefoot is entirely optional.
To help protect our greens, we ask that you avoid high heels or any footwear that could damage the surface.
Can we have drinks while we’re playing?
Absolutely. Our hosts provide bar service throughout your session, so you can enjoy a drink without missing out on the fun.
To help keep our greens in great condition, drinks aren’t permitted on the playing surface itself, and Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) always applies.
What about food?
Planning lunch or dinner as well? We’d recommend booking a table at Engadine Grill before or after your game.
How do we book, and when should we lock it in?
For groups of up to 24 people, you can book online. For groups of 25 or more, or if you’re booking within two weeks of your preferred date, give our reception team a call and they’ll take care of it for you.
Availability depends on green space and staffing, and the lead-up to the warmer months and Christmas is our busiest period, so if you’re thinking about a date, it’s worth getting in early. Full pricing and our online booking form are on our Barefoot Bowls page.
What happens if it rains?
We keep a close eye on the weather and hold off on any decision for as long as we can, since forecasts can change quickly. If wet weather means the greens need to close, we’ll contact you as soon as possible and help you find another day that suits.
What sort of occasions is barefoot bowls perfect for?
Barefoot bowls suits just about any occasion, including birthdays (excluding 18ths), work functions, sporting and social club events, family gatherings, Christmas parties and team celebrations.
The atmosphere is relaxed and social, so it’s just as much about spending time together as it is about the game itself. Feel free to wear your team colours, coordinate an outfit, or go all out in fancy dress to make the occasion extra memorable. You’re also welcome to bring your own playlist and play it through our portable speaker to set the mood.
